This week our group speaker was Jill Borys of Jill’s Jewellery Box Plus.
During the self introduction portion of the meetings Jill has been introducing herself as Jill’s Jewellery Box Plus Plus. Today Jill gave us some information on just what is meant by the Plus part of her business name.
Jill told us that her business is evolving all the time. When she first began her business she dealt exclusively with sterling silver products. This was at a time when sterling silver was going for about $8 per oz. Today the price is right around $40 per oz. This of course has meant that her prices have had to increase to reflect the added cost of materials. Jill’s business model is based on products under a prescribed value and with the additional cost of silver this has become difficult to maintain.
This is where the plus part of her business becomes apparent as she now offers other items that are all reasonably priced to reflect the price point that Jill is trying to maintain.
Jill was originally a school teacher and her motto is “Save the kids, buy jewellery and keep Jill out of the class.”
Jill passed around several samples of her beach glass jewellery for us to examine. These are examples of the very same pieces that people attending any of her increasingly popular jewellery making workshops get to make and keep. Chains are priced separately.
Jill also does home parties. The minimum number of people for a home party is 6 persons at $20 per attendee.
Jill will also do fund raisers for worthy groups with a 50/50 split of revenues.
Jill frequently speaks at different events about her craft and discusses many things about gem stones including such topics as the healing properties of gem stones.
Jill currently wholesales some of her products at various locations including Wharf Wraps.
Jill has many testimonies attesting to enjoyment of and the quality of her jewellery making workshops. Several of our own members have attended her workshops and or bought her products. A typical jewellery making class is about an hour and a half long.
All items are tax free except for rings which are sold on consignment.
