Duncan began by telling us that he is originally from Burnaby B.C. and that he actually went to the same school as Michael J. Fox.
It was in Burnaby that he met his wife who is originally from the U.K. whom he married in 1990. They ended up moving to N.S. because it is about half way to being able to visit each others families.
Duncan had originally applied to the Canadian Forces in the Officer Cadet program, but it turned out he was a credit short of meeting their enrollment criteria.
In 1991 Duncan started his Easy Care Carpet business and was quite successful right out of the gate so his hopes of a career in the CAF were discarded to run his developing business.
Soon after starting his business Duncan met Kevin Clarke of KB Clarke and helped with some of their backlog, and has since forged relationships with several other restoration businesses. These include Power Vac which has since been bought out by Belfor First on Site among others.
Duncan also has several other business interests besides Easy Care. These include investment properties, Chem. Dry in Halifax and retail product sales for carpet and upholstery cleaning products.
Chem. Dry is the ideal solution for those with chemical sensitivities and the products are environmentally safe.
All of the equipment that Duncan uses is truck mounted thereby keeping the noise and mess from the extractors outside. Having the equipment truck mounted allows him to use more powerful equipment ensuring the best results possible.
Some of the more difficult things to deal with are some of the different odors that can found in carpets and upholstery particularly animal odors.
Duncan told us that for the past few days the initial emergency side of the business has been very busy dealing with floods that have resulted from the heavy rain we have had.
Another side to Duncan’s business is dryer duct and vent cleaning.
Duncan told us that his new location when completed will not only clean carpets and rugs etc. but will also have a car detailing service. Duncan is looking to having a mobile car detailing service to come right to you and clean your vehicle.
With 11 employees Duncan guarantees customer satisfaction and the job is not complete until the customer is totally satisfied.
Several members have used Duncan’s services and are completely pleased with the results they have received. Leigh MacDonald told us he has been using Easy Care for 12-15 years, and Wayne Somers uses him to clean the carpets at the Coastal Inn. Several other members have had him clean their carpets and upholstery as well and have all reported exception results and service.
