June 21, 2011 – Kate Mosher & Aislin MacDonald, Main St. Dartmouth B.I.D.

This week our guest speakers were from Shop Main Street Dartmouth.

Kate Mosher and Aislin MacDonald are both summer students hired by Main Street Dartmouth to perform various tasks.

Aislin was a past speaker who spoke to us in hopes of getting a job.  Aislin can be seen around Main Street most days performing cleanup duties and acting as the Street Ambassador for Main Street.

Kate has been busy updating the Shop Main Street Dartmouth website and creating a data base of all businesses represented by Shop Main Street Dartmouth.

Kate noted that the calendar that was produced last year was a great success and to that end they are always looking for vintage photos that can be used in the product of more calendars.

Kate told us that this for the next calendar they are exploring the possibility of including coupons in the calendars.

One of the other projects Kate is working on is pole wraps for the lamp poles on Main Street. The pictures we were shown indicate they will enhance the shopping experience for Main Street shoppers.

Aislin unofficially told us that it will be announced later in the week that there will be a new Main Street Ambassador/Mascot. Main Street Mikey will be visible at various sponsored functions and otherwise spreading good will around the various businesses on Main Street.

Main Street Mikey will work side by side with some of the other Store Mascots.

It was announced that Main Street Dartmouth will once again have a float in the Natal Day Parade. Some other significant events that Main Street Dartmouth hosted include, a Thriller Flash Mob at Tacoma Mall, a tribute to war Veterans, Christmas Food Drive in support of Feed Nova Scotia and support of the Boys and Girls Club of East Dartmouth.

Main Street Dartmouth also sponsored a seminar on Occupational Health and Safety put on by HR Pros in May. Other events were the Great Main Street Pick Me Up which got a lot of support from area businesses.

Main Street has also converted all of their street lights to LED lights and has done beautification of the area by planting flowers.

The girls wrapped up the presentation by inviting everyone to visit and shop Main Street Dartmouth and to “like” us on Facebook.
